Plussize Fashion Week Africa - 2018
African culture is one that has historically celebrated the healthy looking plus-sized woman. She is the everyday woman, in the office, the shop, the marketplace, and on the streets. Contemporary fashion trends in the global West have exhibited an exponential tendency to alienate the plus-sized woman, to the point of stigmatizing her body size. The cross-cultural exchange between these two locales has led to a significant rise of "size zero" models on the African runway. This fact tends to question the integrity of conventional African Fashion runways, with ‘zero’ sized models walking for audiences, 85% of whom are plus sized! This has created a noticeable divide between the audience and the fashion show.
